What's the difference between Community and Cloud?
Community is self-hosted: you run the Expose server on your own VPS and have full control. Cloud is fully managed: we handle the infrastructure, updates, and maintenance for you. Both offer the same core features.
Is Expose really free to self-host?
Yes! The Community edition is completely free and open source (MIT license). You only pay for your own VPS, which typically costs €4-15/month from providers like OVH, Hetzner, or DigitalOcean.
What do I need to self-host Expose?
You need a VPS with Docker installed (1GB+ RAM recommended), a domain name with DNS access, and macOS 14.0+ for the desktop app. Our quick start guide walks you through setup in under 10 minutes.
Can I upgrade or downgrade anytime?
Yes, you can change plans at any time. When upgrading, you'll be charged the prorated difference. When downgrading, the credit is applied to future billing.
What happens if I exceed Cloud limits?
We'll notify you when you're approaching limits. You can either upgrade to a higher tier or we'll temporarily pause new tunnels/deployments until the next billing cycle. We never charge overage fees.
Do you offer discounts for startups or open source?
Yes! We offer 50% off Cloud plans for verified startups (under 2 years, under $1M funding) and free Pro licenses for maintainers of popular open source projects. Contact us to apply.
Is my data secure?
With Community, your data never leaves your server. With Cloud, we use encrypted connections, EU-based servers (OVH France), and follow GDPR best practices. We never access your tunnel traffic.
How do I get support?
Community users get support via GitHub Issues and Discussions. Pro and Cloud users get priority email support with 24-48 hour response times. Enterprise gets dedicated support with custom SLAs.
